Descaling fully automatic coffee machines

A fully automatic coffee machine should be descaled regularly to ensure a long service life and consistently good coffee flavor. Limescale deposits inside can clog pipes, impair the brewing unit, and even lead to defects.

Tap water contains varying amounts of limescale depending on the region. This builds up in the machine over time. Without descaling, not only does energy consumption increase, but the risk of damage to the heating system also increases. Furthermore, the taste of the coffee can be negatively affected.

Step-by-step instructions for descaling fully automatic coffee machines

Descaling with ceragol ultra Premium descaler

What you need:

  • ceragol ultra Premium Entkalker (100 ml)
  • Fresh Water
  • A collecting container with a volume of at least 700 ml
  • Operating instructions for your coffee machine

🔧 Step-by-step instructions:

1. Mix descaling solution

  • Add 100 ml of ceragol ultra premium descaler to the empty water tank.
  • Fill the tank with approx. 500ml of water
    • Mixing ratio: 1 part descaler + 5 parts water.
    • If the device manufacturer specifies a different mixing ratio in the operating instructions, then this is preferable

2. Start the descaling program (if available)

  • Many machines have an automatic descaling mode.
  • Select it now (see manual) otherwise proceed manually (see next step).

3. Descale manually

  • Place a large container under the spout.
  • Let the solution run through the machine in portions, both through the coffee outlet and the hot water function.
  • Allow the machine several breaks of 2–3 minutes between cycles. This allows the descaler to work optimally.
  • Repeat the process until the tank is empty.

4. Rinse

  • Clean and rinse the water tank thoroughly.
  • Fill it with clear, fresh water.
  • Run at least 1-2 full tanks of water through to remove all residues.

After descaling

  • Your machine is ready for use again immediately.

🕓 Recommended frequency:

  • < 8°dH water hardness: descale every 6 months
  • 8-16°dH water hardness: descale every 3 months
  • >16°dH water hardness: descale every month
