Cleaning water tank

The water tank is similar to the brewing group and water pipes: Over time, stubborn limescale builds up, which should be regularly removed with a high-quality premium descaler. The standard descaling process is usually sufficient. However, if the machine is left unused for a long time, unsightly limescale deposits will form, which can be easily removed with a slightly diluted premium descaler. If you know in advance that the coffee machine is going to be paused, it’s advisable to completely remove the water – otherwise, it could tip over and cause unpleasant surprises.

Step-by-step instructions for cleaning the water tank with descaler

🔧Materials required:

Premium descaler (liquid or tablet form)
✅Fresh water
✅Soft cloth or sponge
✅Soft bristle brush (optional)

🚰Step 1: Remove and empty the water tank

  1. Switch off the fully automatic coffee machine and unplug it.
  2. Remove the water tank from the machine.
  3. Empty the remaining contents of the tank completely.

🧽Step 2: Rough cleaning of the water tank

  1. Rinse the tank with warm water.
  2. If there are any deposits or dirt residues, clean them with a soft sponge or brush.

🧴➕💧Step 3: Mix the descaling solution

  1. Read the instructions on the descaler packaging.
  2. Mix the recommended amount of descaler with water (usually 1:1 or according to the manufacturer’s instructions).
  3. Pour the solution into the water tank.

⏳Step 4: Exposure time

  1. Allow the descaling solution to work in the water tank for approximately 15–30 minutes.
  2. If the tank has heavy limescale deposits, you can gently shake it or work it with a soft brush.

🚿Step 5: Rinse

  1. Empty the water tank completely.
  2. Rinse it thoroughly several times with clean water to remove any residue from the descaler.
  3. Wipe the tank with a clean, dry cloth.

🔄Step 6: Reinsert the water tank

  1. Reinsert the cleaned and descaled water tank into the machine.
  2. Fill it with fresh water.
  3. Turn the fully automatic machine back on and run one or two rinse cycles to ensure that no descaler residue remains in the machine.

💡Tip:

  • Clean and descale the water tank regularly (every 2-4 weeks depending on water hardness).
  • To avoid damage to the machine, use only descaling products recommended by the manufacturer.

✅ Done! Your water tank is now clean and free of limescale. 😊
